A Historic, Thriving Theater There are a lot of live performance venues in Milwaukee - frankly way more than you'd expect for a city of this size, which is a good thing. The Pabst Theater is the prettiest and most historic of the lot. Try to catch a performance here. Built in 1895, it has hosted luminaries such as Sergei Rachmaninoff, Oscar Wilde, Paul Robeson, Noel Coward, and George Bernard Shaw. Wow.
Milwaukee was home to a lot of breweries including the famous Pabst Brewing Company, owned by the main benefactor of the theater. In its first years of operations, the theater was home to German-language productions. |
